Last Sunday, children from Class 3 of St Peters C of E School in Wymondham and their parents enjoyed a fun afternoon of traditional bread making at the Windmill Tearoom. The class have been following the restoration project, learning about the history of the windmill and watch wheat being ground at Whissendine Mill. Under the guidance of Rob, a local artisan bread maker and chef, the children used the Whissendine flour to make individual cottage loaves.

“We’re looking forward to running more workshops like this to pass on these important skills and an appreciation of good food.” Tea Room owner Sarahjayne Fletcher.

They mixed it by hand with fresh yeast, salt and water, kneaded their dough and shaped their loaves before being baked and taken home to enjoy. They also worked together to make a Wheatsheaf loaf to show off at school. Mrs Jeffries, the class teacher, said afterwards,”Thank you for organising such a special afternoon.”
